On Saturday 9th May, the Blue Plaque on the childhood home of Sir Harry Hinsley (QM1929-36) at 28 Rowland Street, Walsall, was unveiled by the Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Peter Smith. It was a lovely occasion, although rather cold, and the Hinsley family turned out in force: two of Sir Harry’s three children (Clarissa and Hugo) and their spouses and children, along with Harry’s younger brother Arthur, and sister Sally, now approaching her 90th birthday. There was a reception afterwards at the Leather Museum, where many of Sir Harry’s books and his medals were on display. Also attending were Mrs Kath Evans, whose husband, Phil, was a friend of Harry Hinsley’s at School, and Bill Stephens who met him when he went up to Cambridge.
