We were sorry to hear of the untimely death of Nigel Dean in January. His brother, Paul, writes: he attended QM from September 1969, starting as I left as a pupil. After Sixth Form he attended Derby College(now University) and then moved to Southampton and Fareham. He worked for 36 years at the Office of National Statistics in Titchfield, Hampshire until he was forced to retire early due to ill health in October 2015.
He collapsed suddenly with a heart attack whilst attending church in Fareham and died shortly afterwards in hospital in Portsmouth. He had been suffering from Type 1 Diabetes and angina for number of years and whilst his passing was a shock to everyone the manner of his death was nonetheless a blessing.
He led a full and active life involving playing cricket until four years ago, singing in three choirs and performing and directing with three drama groups. He maintained an active involvement in Scouting until the very end and was an enthusiastic Morris Dancer.
He never married but established a very wide circle of friends in Hampshire by whom he will be greatly missed.
His funeral takes place on Monday 20th February in Holy Trinity Church Fareham @ 1.00pm. Further details will be published in the Express and Star.
