Posh Frock Do – November 2010
“Oh What a Night!!”
What a night, indeed! – On behalf of all forty of us ‘Frockers’ I would like to say an enormous “Thank you” to Sal and Al for, yet again, ‘pulling out all the stops’ and organising a simply splendid evening. (Exactly when, are you two going to set yourselves up as professional party planners?)
To begin with, the Old Boys’ Clubhouse looked stunning – crisp, white linen, festooned with winter foliage, bathed in soft, shimmering candlelight – with the heady aroma of mulled-wine and the gentle strains of jazz music filling the air! (Bliss.)
Following the welcoming beverages, we were served, most efficiently and effectively, a delightful four course dinner, and concluded the repast with a number of amusing, fund-raising games in aid of ‘Children in Need.’ (Cheers Pete.) Then, it was time to rapidly, reorganise the tables in preparation for the ‘entertainment…’
WOW! “The Carl Sinclair Duo” What an act! A profound jazz keyboard player /singer and his more-than-accomplished drummer. I was smitten… and so was everyone else – we couldn’t stop dancing! I know that jazz is quite a specific penchant – and I am NOT into traditional jazz – but this act is mesmerising: all your favourite, contemporary songs but given a jazzy make-over! And, to top-it-all, Carl actually plays his keyboard ‘backwards’ – sorry, you have to witness it to know what I’m talking about! If you are in need of a ‘feel-good’ boost, I completely and utterly recommend this delectable duo.
Follow that!? Well actually – Yes! Although sad to relinquish said duo, the evening was rounded-off, most admirably, by the Paul Barnett Disco – another act I entirely recommend. Paul has the enviable knack (especially, should you be of the 60s, 70s, 80s eras) of choosing the most brilliant array of fabulous tracks. Needless to say, we danced and laughed until the wee, small hours… (and ached-like-hell for the rest of the week…) But it was worth it!!
Along with all my other recommendations, I must say that QM Old Boys’ Clubhouse is a brilliant, versatile venue for a wide variety of parties – from buffets to formal dinner – and, should you require, a wealth of people to help you plan your perfect party.
