Obituary: MJ Sones (QM 1957-1964)

MJ Sones 1946-2022

Mike was a proud pupil of QM, brought up in Argyle Road, Walsall, qualified Quantity Surveyor for Douglas Construction all his working 

life. His main interest was motor sport, as a driver he became British Autotest Champion in 1992 and 93 with his self prepared Mini Cooper S,

he navigated for many well known Rally drivers including Walsall's Stuart Nicholls, together they were Vauxhall Astra Challenge winners.

Mike was Chairman and Director of the British Trial and Rally Drivers Association for over 20 years, his contribution to motor sport as an organiser was

enormous, he was a mainstay in the locally based Owen Motoring Club and in the early 2000's he became a Director of the UK's governing body

in motor sport, The Motor Sport Association. An incredibly popular, knowledgeable and gifted man.

Mike left a legacy to the school in his will. The funds will be allocated towards the FutureSport@QMGS a community legacy campaign leaving an everlasting contribution to the Walsall community.
