QM Old Boys X1: first cricket match of the season

QM Old Boys XI - 141/4 (20 overs)

St Francis XI - 143/4 (19.5 overs)

After a two year hiatus, the QM Old Boys XI had their first match of the season against the St Francis of Assisi XI. Batting first, after the loss of an early wicket a strong partnership between Luke Ridout and Glenn Humphries steadied the innings against some testing bowling. This was followed by some excellent middle order hitting by Sanesh Patel and Roger Weston who both reached 25 not out to help the Old Boys post a competitive total of 141/4 after 20 overs.

In reply St Francis started off quickly with some aggressive stroke play however were pegged back by a wicket apiece for opening bowlers Richard Langton and Stephen Dallaway. After scoring 88/2 off the first 10 overs some tight bowling by Amrit Sohal and Roger Weston, along with wickets for Umong Kaushesh and Satpal Singh kept the game finely balanced. Needing 10 runs to win off the final over, a couple of well hit boundaries meant St Francis chased the 142 run target down with a ball to spare. Although the result did not go the Old Boys way it was an excellent contest to get the season started.
