Obituary: Malcolm Dolan (QM 1962-67)
Malcolm hadn’t been well for some time. We knew this because his peers from School made special arrangements so he could attend the Old Marians’ Dinner last September. Such was their affection for their school pal in difficulty. He came to the dinner and had a lovely time - it was a tradition he would uphold to the end.
Malcolm passed away at the end of January and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Barbara Dolan sent a lovely letter into School in which she said:
I met Malc when he was in his final year at Queen Mary’s. I was fifteen and we have been together ever since. It would have been fifty years this September and always our wedding anniversary was the same weekend as the Old Marians’ Dinner. He would ask me if it was ok to go and I always told him to go because I knew he loved it.
Malc was a very proud Queen Mary’s lad; from very humble beginnings, Prince Street in Pleck, but his affection for the School shone through his life and he often told me stories about his friends and teachers and his love of sport.
Malcolm went on to be a very respected company secretary working at some very important companies but the working-class lad never left him and he was always a Walsall boy.
I had a wonderful life with Malc. We often talked about our life together and how Queen Mary’s shaped him and that in turn gave me a lovely life.
We have a son Chris and a daughter Joanne together and four grandchildren, who he adored.
The Queen Mary’s Club sends its condolences to the Dolan family and we know that he will be remembered each year by the Terry Luckin table at the dinner.
